Business Can Wait…
Posted by myideas1 on June 26th, 2008
Someone once said, a vacation is what you take when you cannot take what you have been taking any longer. When you live a busy life, it is easy to find yourself out of fuel and feeling a little run-down. Anyway, you do not always need a long vacation to renew your mind and give your brain some fresh air. Sometimes, you just need a day off.
Business owners sometimes fool themselves into believing that their business cannot afford to lose them for even one day. Well, it can. Trust me, long after you’re gone, the world will continue to spin on its axis.
So…be kind to yourself. No one can do it better than you can. Put your feet up, relax your mind, get a massage, go to a movie, go to one of Georgia’s State Parks, (entrance is FREE on Wednesdays) do something that will make you feel refreshed. Just make sure you add some FUN into your life.
Sometimes a day off can be your BEST reward for your overworked life.

I agree! You don’t really need a long vacation in order to get refreshed. Cheers!

I am glad that you wrote this! Sometimes we get so caught up in our lives that it is hard to step back, take a look at where we are, and have some fun. Thanks.

Until we learn better, we’ll spend most of our time trying to impress people we don’t know and ultimately pay a HEFTY price for doing so. It’s YOUR life. Take better care of it by making your mental and physical health a priority.

I fully agree. That’s why I advocate 4 day work weeks. That one day off is just what people need to rest, run errands or go to appointments so they can focus during the other 4 days they are at the office.

SHaE, you’re absolutely right. I’ve always preferred PERFORMANCE versus being tied to a rigid five day work week. A lot of companies are being a bit more flexible, but it should be universal.

As with most of us, I learned the hard way. By that time I was practically drained. And sometimes, even now, I still don’t know when to quit. But I never let it get to the point of exhaustion or cost the quality of what I’m doing.
It pays all the way around your life to renew yourself.

Good post on refreshing. Actually, by taking a holiday, we might perform better in the workplace and the output will be definitely better than without taking a rest. I take my break every weekend. I just make sure to go for a movie (once a week), gym workout (5 times a week), seaside walk (once a week), holiday vacation point either local or foreign (6 months once).
It is good for family also.

Good for you Reena! Seems as if you’ve incorporated BALANCE into your life. With heart disease on the rise for women, we definitely need to concentrate on some ME time.

Sheila, most of us fall into the Superwoman trap. There’s a better way to live and that’s realizing that we cannot do it all without risking our health. BRAVO for changing your life for the better!

I took last weekend off from my computer and felt so much better after I did it!

Hooray for you Kim! Sadly, most people are attached to their computers or computer related devices like glue.

I entirely agree Jacq…
Sometimes you need to take a breather so you can work better later.
