Reasons To Smile: Dr. Trent Jones

Posted by myideas1 on 29th October 2008

DrTrentJonesNew1.jpgNo other method of communication is used as often as a smile!

  • Nine out of ten adults believe an attractive smile is an important social asset.
  • Eight out of ten adults believe an unattractive smile makes a person less attractive to the opposite sex. We can improve your smile.
  • 50% of Americans would like to make some improvement to the appearance of their smile. It’s easier than you think.
  • Smiling is the international symbol of welcome.
  • Smiling has been proven to lower the blood pressure of both the giver and the recipient by as much as 20 points in clinical studies of stress and emotion.

If you’re not smiling right now…you could be! If your smile is less than perfect, cosmetic dentistry might be ‘for you’. Simply put, cosmetic dentistry is the art of giving you a beautiful, younger looking, more attractive smile. Porcelain veneers and crowns replace your existing exposed tooth structure and completely erase stains, discolored restorations and uneven, jagged or imperfect teeth. Missing, recessed or jutting teeth are all candidates for cosmetic restoration. We offer “instant orthodontics” as well, meaning we straighten teeth with the veneering process. In short, almost anything you don’t like about your teeth can likely be radically changed with cosmetics.

If you want to find out how other people see your smile, try this trick: stand in front of your bathroom mirror. Now, laugh hard and loud. Do you see what everyone else sees? Most of your upper and part of your lower teeth are exposed. Some people’s teeth show all the way back to their molars. Many of our patients have tried this exercise and cover their mouths with their hands, attempting to hide a less than perfect smile.

You don’t have to laugh with your hand over your mouth any longer. With modern payment arrangements and the beauty of all-porcelain restorations, there is no reason for you to be anything less than electrified by your smile, right now. Ask any member of our team for more details; we’re here to help. We also offer:

  • Zoom!
  • Invisalign™
  • Take-Home Whitening
  • Bonding
  • Veneers
  • Traditional all-porcelain veneers
  • Lumineers®; “The No Fear Porcelain Veneer”

Call Dr. Trent Jones’ office today at All Smiles Atlanta, and start living a more confident life with your new smile! 404-288-1222

Investing Your Money: Should You Continue?

Posted by myideas1 on 19th October 2008

KevinTurner-Question.jpgQuestion: Should I continue to invest money in the stock market when it is not doing well?

Answer: When you are investing in the stock market, either directly into stocks or with managed investments, your approach should be that you are investing for the long-term.

For money you may need access to in the short-term, it should not be invested in the stock market because stocks can fluctuate quite a bit in the short-term. Over the long-term, stocks have historically outperformed all other investment categories, so by riding out a short-term market decline, you have a much better chance of growing your money through the stock market.

Therefore, it is wise to maintain your long-term investment strategy when the market is not doing well, and you may even consider investing additional money during those times to pick up good investments at “bargain” prices. By doing so, you will be positioned to see greater gains in your portfolio when the market does recover.

Before You Sign That Music Contract…

Posted by myideas1 on 15th October 2008

LeronRogersPhoto4.jpg1. Hire an Attorney: Before signing anything, get a referral to an experienced music attorney.

2. Term: Usually the term in a is expressed as an initial period (typically one year after the delivery of your album or commercial release of the album), plus a certain number of options for additional albums (typically 3-5 options). It is important to understand when the term begins and what triggers an option. Beware of automatic option periods that do not require the record company to pay you in order to exercise the option.

3. Advance Amount: Recording an album can often surpass the demands of a regular full-time job, but your bills will not wait for your first album to be released. Seek a respectable advance amount, based on the demand you have created for yourself and what you bring to the table. But remember, all amounts advanced will have to be repaid (recoupment), so be careful.

4. Budget: The saying “it takes money to make money” holds true in the music industry. Make sure the recording agreement allows for sufficient capital available to ensure your album’s success. Depending on the genre, the right producers can catapult your album sales, so make sure you have latitude to approve of such producers and the money to pay them. Try to get an assurance that at least one “MTV Style” video will be produced for your album.

5. Royalty: This is the essence of how you get paid. Make sure you are getting , at minimum, based on someone similarly situated. A typical new is between 11 – 15 percentage points. Take note of any such as packaging deductions in the agreement.

6. Cross-collateralization: Artists are paid from several revenue sources. Your recording agreement should limit the record company’s ability to recoup (recover) any money advanced on your project to money received from the sale of records, and not publishing, merchandising, touring, etc.

7. Delivery Requirements: Delivery is your fundamental obligation as a recording artist, and it can often be a subjective determination made by your recording company. Be knowledgeable of the number of Masters (songs) constituting an album, the time period in which Delivery of the Masters is required, and whether Delivery must be “satisfactory”, “technically satisfactory”, or “technically and commercially satisfactory”. These terms can mean a world of difference for you as the artist.

Dental Care For Children - Dr. Chanda Culmer

Posted by myideas1 on 10th October 2008

DrChandaCulmer-oct1.jpgWhen should dental care begin?

Most pediatric dentists will agree that regular dental care should begin by one year of age, with a dental check-up at least twice each consecutive year for most children. Some children may need more frequent evaluations and care. In accordance with this recommendation, the following dental checklist for infants and toddlers has been provided by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Birth to 6 months of age:

Clean the infant’s mouth with gauze after feedings and at bedtime. Consult your child’s pediatrician regarding fluoride supplements. Regulate feeding habits (bottle feeding and breastfeeding).

Six to 12 months of age:

During this time, the first tooth should appear. Consult the Pediatric dentist for an examination. Brush teeth after each feeding and at bedtime with a small, soft-bristled brush. As the child begins to walk, stay alert of potential dental and/or facial injuries. Wean the child from breast or bottle by his/her first birthday.

Twelve to 24 months of age:

Follow the schedule of dental examinations and cleanings, as recommended by your child’s pediatric dentist. Generally, dental examinations and cleanings are recommended every 6 months for children and adults.

As your child learns to rinse his/her mouth, and as most deciduous (baby) teeth have erupted by this age, brushing with a pea-sized portion of fluoridated toothpaste becomes appropriate.

Facts about deciduous teeth:

Proper care of a child’s deciduous teeth (also known as “baby” or primary teeth) is very important as these teeth hold space for the future eruption of permanent teeth.

If a baby tooth decays or is removed too early, the space necessary for the permanent teeth is lost and can only be regained through orthodontic treatment.

Infected baby teeth can cause the permanent teeth to develop improperly resulting in stains, pits, and weaker teeth.

Most children begin losing their baby teeth around the age of 4 - usually the front bottom teeth first. They continue to lose baby teeth until the age of 12 or 13 when all of the permanent teeth finally come through.

Thumb-Sucking and Dental Health

Generally, thumb-sucking before the age of two is normal and harmless. When thumb-sucking is not stopped by the appropriate age (generally by the age of five) then parents should discourage the act. Prolonged thumb-sucking may contribute to crowded and/or crooked teeth development and bite problems.

Start early by teaching your children healthy dental habits that can last a lifetime. Dr. Chanda Culmer treats children and adults using the latest technology in general and cosmetic dentistry. For more information, call her office at 770-801-1641 or visit her website.

Houses And Pets: Real Estate Selling Tip

Posted by myideas1 on 8th October 2008

vedawoodoctpod4.jpgMany real estate agents are animal lovers and have pets of our own, but we have all shared stories of having our fingers or ankles nipped by furry creatures during a showing. We have opened the front door to the home we are showing only to have a purebred Persian kitten scoot toward the nearest busy street.

If you have pets and are going to put your house on the market, be sure to work out the showing arrangements carefully. It is important for us to be able to communicate to our colleagues what to expect when they pass through your front door. It is rare for pets to pose significant problems, but big dogs can be menacing. Buyers or agents may be allergic or even a little phobic about dogs or cats.

It is difficult to get a buyer excited about your home if he or she is sneezing continuously or unwilling to cross the threshold because your dog is barking away intruders.

If your agent knows there might be a problem, they can arrange ahead of time for you to walk the dog, vacuum the cat dander or do whatever is necessary to make sure that the showing goes smoothly.

Veda Wood is a top producer in metro Atlanta. For more tips, visit Veda’s website or call 770-926-0101.

Get The Door! It’s Your Doctor

Posted by myideas1 on 7th October 2008

DrHall_podcastFINAL2.jpgIn Atlanta, house calls are making a comeback, and Frenesa Hall, M.D, Founder, CEO and Chief Medical Officer of Mobile-Medicine.Net is leading the ‘health care on your terms’ movement!

Frustrated with the direction quality patient care was headed, instead of complaining, Dr. Hall decided to do something about it and thus her company was born.

Mobile-Medicine.Net was developed to bring back true convenience and quality health care to the patient. Participating physicians are able to rekindle their original spark for providing thorough and effective medical care without sacrificing the financial rewards commensurate with the responsibilities they accept.

After obtaining her undergraduate degree in Biology at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Hall earned her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. While at medical school, Dr. Hall became increasingly interested in ways to improve patient wellness programs including the use of alternative therapies when appropriate. She completed both her internship and residency in Baltimore, Maryland at the Franklin Square Hospital Center.

In 1992, Dr. Hall relocated to the Atlanta area where she established a highly successful private primary care practice. Additionally, she co-founded Health Balance, one of the first alternative medicine facilities in Lawrenceville, Georgia. After more than 10 years of service to the Lawrenceville communities, Dr. Hall sold her practice in order to pursue her passion for improving the health care environment for both patients and physicians.

Busy executives, stay-at-home moms or entertainers, if waiting rooms give you the chills, let the doctor come to you!

Dr. Terrilyn Reynolds: Providing Gentle Dental Care

Posted by myideas1 on 2nd October 2008

DrTerrilynReynolds4.jpg1. If you are experiencing pain, your body is trying to tell you there is a problem. And generally, if you wait, the problem will get worse, which may lead to more pain, more expenses and/or loss of the tooth/teeth.

2. If you had a bad experience at a young age or otherwise, you tend not to go back. A way around this would be to ask for referrals from friends who had good experiences.

3. As a Healthcare Provider, I feel the patient is in charge when they come in for treatment. I am here to serve. As the patient, you have the right to ask questions, and accept or deny treatment.

4. As they say, “Your body is your temple.” Thus, without a healthy mouth, your body is not healthy. Any bacteria that you have in your mouth is transferred to all parts of your body. Without strong healthy teeth, your food cannot be broken down properly, leading to digestive and intestinal issues.

5. Some people are afraid to know if there is a problem, so they avoid having dental care. However, in the end, something small becomes larger, and more painful or costly. Go for regular check-ups to learn how to get and maintain a healthy mouth.

6. Patients have been victims of overpriced offices or misdiagnoses. To gain a better understanding of the recommended treatment, ask questions. Also, if further information is needed to feel comfortable, seek a second opinion.

7. Financial woes may cause fear for some because the treatment needed may be out of reach. There are options available: Dental Insurance Companies, Dental Finance Companies and individual office payment plans.

Dr. Terrilyn Reynolds recently opened her office in the Historic Fourth Ward, in Inman Park. She has been practicing dentistry for over 10 years and is the proud product of Spelman College and Howard University College of Dentistry. She is committed to providing superb dental care and oral health education to all children and families and works diligently to make the Atlanta community a healthy community.

Meet Dr. Reynolds and her team and begin to receive the warm, caring service and the best oral healthcare from Gentle Dental Care. Her office provides special rates and discounts for schools and organizations. Call today for an appointment (404) 524-8444.
