Dr. Mark Walker, one of Atlanta’s most respected surgeons, as well as the Medical Director of Surgical Health Collective, has seen numerous preventable injuries.
A few months ago, he was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to grant us an interview, and he shared some startling statistics.
Dr. Walker also reminded us of simple choices we can make, which can save our lives as well as the lives of others.
I felt it was important to repost his message, especially since we have another holiday right around the corner. Please share it with a friend.

With Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day just around the bend, I can’t help but think of how proud the late great American tennis star would have been to see some of the new faces in tennis…like Atlanta’s Donald Young.
My husband has loved this game since he was twelve years old, and Arthur Ashe was, and continues to be his hero.
You see, not only was Arthur a tennis star, but he was also a conscience leader, humanitarian, and educator. One blog in particular, which keeps Arthur’s spirit alive, is blacktennispros.com.
You should bounce on over to my fellow Entrecard member’s site and see what you’ve been missing. Don’t forget to say hello to Shelia, who enjoys serving up hot news in tennis, with LOVE!

Wow! I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my email account today and found 1000 Entrecard credits, courtesy of Scramories! What a wonderful gift.
I haven’t been a member of Entrecard for too long, but I’ve met some great people, learned a lot and discovered many interesting sites — Scramories is just one of them. In fact, Ada was one of the few people who dropped her card on my account when I first signed up.
Thank you Ada! If you haven’t met her yet, drop by to say hello. Even though she’s very busy with being a wife, mother, and student, she still finds time to be a friend on Entrecard.
So far, my experience has been lovely and I look forward to other rewards and Entrecard friendships! Now…excuse me, but I must take a break and decide how I’m going to spend my 1000 Entrecard credits!
Thanks again Ada; your kindness is appreciated.

In 1836, La Presse, a French newspaper was the first to include paid advertising in its pages. Since that time, print advertising has virtually exploded. Everywhere you see print, you’re being exposed to advertising. On the plane, train, in your doctor’s office, beauty salon etc., it’s there trying to get your attention.
Commercials are great and so is the Internet; however, there’s something comforting about holding a magazine in your hands, slowing flipping through each page at your own sweet pace, taking mental photographs of each ad, visually drinking in the beauty of it all.
Frankly, it can be quite soothing and mesmerizing to see a creatively designed ad with colorful, and beautiful pictures, which jump off the page—softly selling products and services almost effortlessly. Print advertising seems to be one of those things which will never go out of style when it comes to creating brand loyalty and reinforcing brand image.
If you’re thinking about putting together an ad for your business, remember words can be just as powerful as pictures when it comes to making your ad sizzle and adding just the right punch. Richard Bayan wrote Words That Sell, an amazing book which can help you move in the direction of adding word power to your print ads.
Think of words that stop you in your tracks when you look at someone else’s ad in your field, and incorporate similar ones in yours. Since you’re introducing yourself to complete strangers, most often for the first time, think about the impression you’d like to make and try to connect with them on a familiar and emotional level.
Yes, I believe print advertising is here to stay and ads like the one that promotes Dr. Danielle Wilson’s Kissable Toothpaste are always in style.

You’ll always find a multitude of cheerleaders who shout “Think Outside the Box!” but have you noticed how the crowd quickly dwindles once you actually take steps to put new ideas to work? They will gently or sometimes firmly ask, “Why can’t you be like everyone else?”
I struggle every day to stay outside the box while other people struggle just as hard to keep me locked inside. I’ve never been one to follow the herd. People who are content with being locked inside a box seldom make great discoveries.
Brave souls are used to taking a leap of faith into the unknown. They’re comfortable with walking down the road less traveled to make the world a better place via new inventions and new ways of doing things.
So…to my fellow “outside the box thinkers,” keep doing what you’re doing. There’s nothing inside that box but the same colorless, tasteless, dull, dim, lifeless atmosphere.
Inside the box thinking is too limited and the world is much too big to think small. I’d rather live one minute of freedom in the realm of possibilities than a lifetime inside of a box.

If you’re a tennis lover, you will absolutely love attending the Family Circle Cup in Charleston. It’s the Family Circle Cup’s 35th Anniversary, believe it or not.
For the past five or six years, my husband and I have made our voyage to Daniel Island to be spectators of this wonderful and exciting event. He’s been an avid tennis player since he was twelve years old, so this trip has become one of our traditions to celebrate his birthday.
Not only will you have an opportunity to see top players like Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic, Anna Chakvetadze and many others, you’ll meet some wonderful people from all over the country. I even saw Alexandra Stevenson play this time around. The setting is very intimate so you’ll have a chance to get autographs, photographs, and even watch the tennis greats practice.
In addition to seeing all of the celebrities there, you’ve got to indulge in the food! You’ll find comfort food all over the place. My favorite this year was the freshly popped kettle corn. After all of these years, it was my first time having it and I was immediately addicted.
The whole atmosphere is warm and inviting and I would encourage tennis fans to definitely check it out next year. Unfortunately, we could only stay a couple of days this time…duty called. By the way, Serena defeated Sharapova today.
Update: Serena won the title!
