Fight Poverty

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty - 10/17/09

BloggersUnite.jpgI know what it’s like to be poor, but not by the world’s standards. I know what it’s like to be hungry, but not by the world’s standards. Though I’ve experienced hunger, I don’t know what it’s like to be in a state of starvation. It remains perplexing to me that we can continue to watch starving men, women and children on television and not have a NATIONAL outcry against starvation.

Wouldn’t you want it for yourself, if you were in their situation, for someone to say. . . “ENOUGH. We will not rest until we know that our sisters and brothers at home and abroad are at least nourished.” With nourishment comes a greater desire to learn, for how can one learn while their belly is extended?

Let us begin by showing the world that we care. Let us find a way to get food to those who are hungry and dying. Let us open up our hearts and minds, realizing that we are ONE. Let us move together as one toward the eradication of poverty. In the end, our greatness is not built upon what we hoard, our greatness is built upon what we share.

If we care enough. . .We Can Do It!!

I most definitely know how rich we are compared to the rest of the world. I agree with Jacqueline in that no one in this world should ever go to bed hungry. Shame on us for seeing those in need and not doing anything about it. Sharing is what life should be all about but unfortunately we have too many people who think only of themselves and no others. Boy are they going to be in for a BIG surprise when our Lord returns! Thanks for the post and video!

@RE - EntrePOD: Thanks for dropping by. As we both know, the solutions to the world’s problems are simple. We are pros at complicating everything.

My main site is with a different host. I’m still trying to get my new blog completed, then posting on this site will be very limited.

@Eddie Garcia: Hey, you’re welcome. I appreciate your comments. I think our selfishness will eventually make life worse for us all.

    Great post!

Hi! I have never understood how we can let our fellow human beings suffer. We (the so-called rich countries) do have the power to eradicate poverty, yet we remain inactive. We have become too detached from world suffering.

  7. jacqueline Says:

@Dori: Thanks much for stopping by.

@Duni: I’m with you. This detachment we have is prevalent all across our country. I believe if there must be war, let it be a war to eradicate poverty, hunger and the suffering of innocent little children. Let it be one to help families return to the kitchen table at dinner time. Let it be one to make sure each child receives a top-notch education and everyone is eligible for premium health care as well as a decent wage. Also, let us stop pretending that we don’t know where drugs are coming from and how they are invading certain communities. These are wars we can win. Our great country may be rich in material possessions, but we are poor in spirit. How do I know? Just look at the nightly news. There’s rarely anything edifying about it. We can do better. We can be a better example for our neighbors around the world as well as our neighbors next door and down the street.
